I have known Michael for about three years. We worked together at NCCI Holdings, Inc. in the Project Office for almost two of them. He was my manager.
Michael took a group of people who had come from all over the country, very unclear regarding their roles and responsibilities on the project and inspired a “we can do it” energy in the team. He has a special aptitude for growing his people. He actively coached us long before coaching became a buzzword.
Michael has vision and was always on top of the ‘big picture’ with a plan for where we needed to be going. Yet he involved us – we came up with a group vision and a shared plan together. His leadership provided an atmosphere of encouragement and challenge that motivated his employees to rise to whatever challenge was put before them. He received a “Best Facilitator” award for bringing folks together at work.
Michael has a special ability to [coach] people who don’t see eye-to-eye to find common ground and collaborate. For example, he worked hard and successfully to get the Technology Department to support our project. Given the opportunity, I wish I could work with Michael again. He is fair, supportive and encouraging to work for. I consider him one of the best managers I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
