First, let me thank you. Your coaching was very helpful to me. Our sessions were key to reducing job-related stress by providing insight to where and how that stress originated and could be managed. When we began in September my job seemed to be “hanging by a thread,” paradoxically because of ambitions I had for the company which my manager seemed reluctant to support. I considered your perspective and suggestions very valuable, and I enjoyed our time together.
How did your coaching translate into concrete, measurable results?
- Your insights into my manager helped me better appreciate her objectives
- That shift allowed me to create more harmony in our relationship
- Increased harmony lessened personal stress and uncertainty
- Increase harmony increased her level of confidence in my contribution
This may not sound like much [of being a coach], but in a round of organizational changes that took place almost immediately after our sessions, I was offered a national position in our company. This offer validated the contributions and directions I had pioneered in my region. Not only will I have the opportunity to contribute on a national level, but I also believe this new position will better suit my talents and increase my value to the corporation.
My new position of National Operations Manager was not provided for in the original structure or budget. It was created and approved to accommodate me. In fact, the five regional sales managers, including me, were initially slated for separation from the company. The other four are still slated for separation.
Based on what I know of the decision-making process, much of the impetus to make this happen directly resulted from the exposure of my accomplishments, credibility and confidence expressed in the value of my contributions, and just plain cheer-leading done at the national level by my existing manager. I am confident that our sessions together were key to creating the environment that led to her actions. With thanks to you first and foremost, I remain employed, and will be in a more appropriate position as well as one I believe I will enjoy far more.
